How We Joined Forces
When we met as co-panellists at an international
awards conference for women inventors in March 2007, we both realized we
thought the same about inventors and innovation...
It's not just practical know-how that matters, it's what you
have inside YOU and how you use it. At the same time, all the inspiration
and support in the world won't make a difference unless you're prepared to
learn the SMART THINKING you need to get ahead of the game when you set out
to exploit your idea or Intellectual Property.
In summer 2007, when Deb was writing the book of her journey
from newly qualified lecturer to award-winning inventor and entrepreneur
with her company Forensic Pathways, and Cally was lining up to scale her
training and coaching business, ideas-into-action, into online services for
inventors and innovators, we both had a dawning realization.
Both of us share the same goal of shaking up conventional
advice and help for inventors, and delivering information and support that
takes a more whole and effective approach to individuals creating successful
new products and services for today's fast-changing marketplace.
Once we twigged that our complimentary talents and
experience could work well to make that goal happen quicker and with more
added value, the outcome was obvious. Team up to grow Invention Intelligence
into THE online community of modern-day inventors and innovators,
like-minded professional experts, and people who are as passionate as we are
about chucking out old-school thinking around inventing and introducing ways
to really help today's innovators help themselves. Innovating on inventing
itself, you might say.

"In
2002 I left behind a 14-year career in printed media, licensed
consumer products and cutting-edge interactive services for TV and
the web to establish ideas-into-action as a coaching business
helping individuals exploit the Intellectual Property in their
innovative ideas.
With a broad experience
in
product development, marketing and business development gained from
large corporations like Time Warner and Disney, through to
rapid-growth new technology companies and dotcom start-ups, I also
set about developing some of my own product ideas I'd been storing
up for the consumer market.
Unfortunately, you won't find any of
them on the market today!
With hindsight, I can
happily say that I made every mistake in the book with my own ideas.
And that's despite my career developing and marketing new products
and services.
With my coaching clients, I also found that common issues and
challenges came up time and again. Surprisingly, most of them
weren't really about the practicalities of the development and
commercialization process. The REAL obstacles that clients had to
overcome came from inside them and the way they were thinking.
Usually, something in their mindset was limiting how far they could
take their idea.
I found that I relied more heavily on my skills as a personal coach
to keep people asking the right questions and moving in the right direction with their ideas, than
the expertise and technical know-how I could provide them with.
With an invitation to
develop a starter workshop for inventors and innovators at the newly
opened Business & IP Centre of The British Library in London in
2006, I got the chance to consolidate my repertoire of strategies
and techniques into some kind of formula for developing ideas and
inventions.
That's how Invention
Intelligence was born as a guidance system that inventors and
innovators can readily pick up on and use to avoid common pitfalls
and increase their chances of success.
Today, what's important
to me is making sure that every inventive or innovative individual
worldwide has access to Invention Intelligence as a way of
simplifying and tackling the whole invention process and avoiding
the traditionally high failure rate for taking new ideas to market.
Many new ideas people
don't realize that their inventive or creative outlook is a rare
gift. Nor that it is just the start of their journey to discovering
what they can really achieve in life. As Deb Leary and I widen the
reach of Invention Intelligence, it's our job to speed them on their
way."

"When you sow a thought you reap an action, when you sow
an action you reap a habit, when you sow a habit you reap a
